The Time is Never Ripe<\/em> unfolds across two floors of the seventeenth-century building, the Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO) in Leh, bringing our practice into conversation with the changing conditions of life in Ladakh. The exhibition moves through the poetic registers of fear and fatigue, awe and ecstasy, considering what happens to the body when the forces around it become difficult to anticipate or withstand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upper floor attends to moments when external conditions press upon the body and alter its sense of the present, calling for adaptation and endurance. On the lower floor, the exhibition turns towards what remains after such encounters; the experience of being with others, the refusal to let hardship embitter the future, and the impulse to remember and preserve what is disappearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seventeenth-century building becomes a part of the viewing, here, the work enters Ladakh as a place of lived experience and changing circumstances. The exhibition considers the pressures brought by human activity and the possibility of disharmony, while also looking towards the forces of the cosmos and their long association with power, desire, and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ladakh stands at a moment of profound change. Glaciers become rivers, pastures become roads, and villages become checkpoints. The Time is Never Ripe<\/em> stays with this unsettled present, while being in dialogue with attention, the reservoirs of memory, and the imagination of freedom looks like. It asks what we carry forward when the conditions of life are changing around us, and what might still be recovered from what we are in danger of forgetting.<\/p>\n\n\n
