{"id":9313,"date":"2004-08-09T08:03:00","date_gmt":"2004-08-09T08:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/works.raqsmediacollective.net\/?p=9313"},"modified":"2024-10-25T11:50:30","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T11:50:30","slug":"the-network-of-no_des","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/works.raqsmediacollective.net\/index.php\/2004\/08\/09\/the-network-of-no_des\/9313","title":{"rendered":"The Network of No_Des"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-4fc3f8e1 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:21px\"><em><strong>The Network of No_Des<\/strong><\/em><strong><em><br><\/em><\/strong><em><strong>Shown at: 12th International Symposium on Electronic Art (2004)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><em>HTML<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px\">\u201c<em>Nodes<\/em>, when written, perhaps erroneously, as&nbsp;<em>&#8216;no-des&#8217;&nbsp;<\/em>gives rise to an intriguing hybrid English\/Eastern-Hindi neologism, a companion to the old words &#8211;&nbsp;<em>&#8216;des&#8217;,&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>&#8216;par-des&#8217;<\/em>. &#8216;<em>Des<\/em>&#8216; (in some eastern dialects of Hindi, spoken by many migrants to Delhi) is simply homeland or native place;&nbsp;<em>&#8216;pardes&#8217;&nbsp;<\/em>suggests exile, and an alien land.&nbsp;<em>&#8216;No_des&#8217;&nbsp;<\/em>is that&nbsp;<em>site&nbsp;<\/em>or way of being, in &#8216;<em>des<\/em>&#8216; or in&nbsp;<em>&#8216;par-des<\/em>&#8216;, where territory and anxieties about belonging, don&#8217;t go hand in hand.&nbsp;<em>Nodes&nbsp;<\/em>in a digital domain are&nbsp;<em>No_des.<\/em>\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px\">One thing leads to another, a story fills a space in a song, and a piece of code gathers patches.
