George W. Bush made a statement some time ago that he really thinks that the
internet should be a commercial thing only.
It is not only business for many, some are aiming at their next
monopoly.....
Frightning if you think of the potential consequenses.

Microsoft to stimulate broadband

The software giant Microsoft wants everybody to have a cable or ADSL
connection. Microsoft's future will depend on the success of its .Net
strategy, offering software as a service. In order to make these services a
success, wider implementation of broadband will be required and for this
reason the company is investing in a range of broadband activities.
"Microsoft wants to contribute to making the broadband experience more
useful, more fun and more of a challenge to consumers. In addition,
Microsoft ensures that broadband services become more profitable to the
cable industry," said top man Belluzo in his notes for a speech to the
Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM). However,
broadband Internet access is twice as expensive as analogue access.
Microsoft wants to stimulate broadband in different ways: by supporting home
networks better by means of the Windows XP operating system, by means of
on-line applications in the Xbox game computer, by means of the MS TV
platform for interactive TV applications and by means of MSN TV.
