Dear All,
Some question on ensuing discussion..
Are you uncomfortable, sudesh, with this specific filmmaker making a
film about these specefic children, where the issue devolves on the
particular subject positions they both inhabit? .i.e is your discomfort
to do with the filmamkers being 'first world' or 'white' or whatever,
making a film about these children because you feels this is inherently
a process of 'othering'?
Or, does it lie instead in the fact that the claim of protecting their
identity seems hollow given the availability of the film in other easily
accesible forms, such as the web, and that you suspect there is some
other reason why she does not wish to release the film.
best,
Aarti
