Greg Grandin, who teaches History at NYU, shall be speaking at the ICHR,
3rd floor, at 3:00 pm, on 9 January 2007, on "US Imperialism and Latin
Ameirca's Liberation Project."

Grandin is the author of Empire's Workshop: Latin America, the United
States, and the Rise of the New Imperialism (2006), which is, in my view,
the single most important general book on Latin America published in the
English language in at least a decade, if not more. Some very fine
recent books on individual countries come to mind but nothing else that
takes in the whole of the continent so very well.

Grandin has returned very recently from Venezuela where he was official
observer of the recent elections there. Previously, he has also served
on the United Nations Truth commission investigating
counterrevolutionary terror in Guatemala.
