It is now almost five months since the arrest of
Dr. Binayak Sen, National Vice-President of
People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), on
flimsy, trumped-up charges The case of Dr. Sen is
not an isolated one. All over India, we are
seeing a situation where human rights defenders
are being targeted under draconian legislations.

There is considerable material on Dr. Sen
available from various sources, but it is
necessary to bring all this material together in
one place where it can be easily accessed by
those concerned about the issue and campaigning
for his release. The website
http://www.freebinayaksen.org/ is a step in this
direction. At a later stage, this website will be
expanded to cover the cases of other human rights
activists who have been arrested on trumped-up
charges.
