Spike Island International Residency Programme : call for Applications

Residency opportunities for artists and others working within the field
of contemporary art provide vital development time. At Spike Island we
have established a series of models for artists, writers and curators
which include Graduate Fellowships, Production Residencies and Research
Residencies. These residencies provide both a stimulating context for
visiting regional, national and international artists and directly feed
into our exhibition and public programme.

Key residencies for 2009/10 include:
The Charles Wallace India Trust Research Residency which has supported
artists from India to work at Spike Island for many years. Current
deadline 15 November 2008. Applications via the British Council:
http://www.britishcouncil.org/india-scholarships-cwit-listing-full.htm

Past residents have included: Sanchayan Ghosh, Chintan Upadhyay,
Surekha, Sudarshan Shetty, Subbanna Samit Das and Sukanya Ghosh

About Spike Island
Spike Island is a place for the production and exhibition of
contemporary art and design. Spike Island's mission is to provide space,
time and opportunity for the research, production and presentation of
practices relating to the contemporary art and design within a
supportive and stimulating environment.
Spike Island is an excellent working environment for artists and those
developing a path in the contemporary visual arts. Within the 80,000
square foot building, we provide exhibition and studio space as well as
services and space for commercial creative industries. The new Canteen
has become an important social focus for all those who use and visit the
building.

Situated on the southern end of Bristol’s historic docks, the former
1960s Brook Bond tea packing factory has become, over the last ten
years, a leading venue for the production and display of contemporary
visual arts. The view from the front door is across the tributary of the
Avon known as the New Cut. This river, with the second highest tidal
differential in the world provides all that use the building with a
daily drama of its ebbs and flows.
