Freinds
Some of us who have been following the Indian state's and media's
versions of the "Islamic terrorism", we often wonder who invents the
complex Arabic names of terror outfits: Lashkar-eToiba, Harkat-ul
Jihadul-Islami, Harkat-ul whatever else. I wonder if Lt.Col.Purohit
(who has accepted to being the mastermind of Malegaon bombing) was
taking Arabic lessons to understand those names or to invent new ones.
As an intelligence person, he was also "in touch" with many terrorist
groups in Kashmir - that's what the report below tells us. I know that
many languages including Arabic and Persian are taught to armymen, but
if Purohit was using it for the benefit of the citizens of India, it
was fine. But his use of Arabic to actually indulge in such an
activity is very very intriguing and telling of what's to come in
future.

Lt Col Shrikant Purohit, alleged mastermind of the Malegaon blast

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will today (November 8)
question Col Shrikant Purohit, the first serving army officer to be
arrested in connection with the Malegaon blast that killed six on
September 29.

The CBI along with the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) will
question Purohit in connection with the 2006 Nanded bomb blast. The
blast in Nanded had taken place on April 6, 2006 at the residence of a
retired irrigation department engineer and RSS activist.

Confessions by those arrested in that incident, showed that they were
planning retaliatory terror strikes.

Col Purohit is already under investigation for his role in the
September 29 Malegaon blast. Purohit has allegedly confessed to his
role in the blasts. According to army sources Purohit was also known
to Maj Upadhyay, another arrested ex servicemen. The two established
contact while serving in Pune.

Who is Lt Col Shrikant Purohit?

Lt Col SP Purohit was schooled at the Bhonsala military school at Pune
and then commissioned into the 15 Maratha light infantry in 1993.

In 2002, he served in Kashmir and as an intelligence corps officer he
is believed to have been in touch with militant outfits.

In 2005, Purohit set up a cell of the Abhinav Bharat in Pune.

Two years later, while serving in an army liaison cell he took Arabic
lessons, all of which aroused suspicion. Both Upadhyay and Purohit had
enough knowledge about explosives.

Purohit has been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit terror.
The ATS is likely to slap charges on him under the tough MCOCA.

Meanwhile, sources have confirmed that the Mumbai ATS has asked the
Army for permission to question three more army personnel in
connection to the Malegaon blast.

Two of the three with suspected links to the Malegaon blast are
presently serving in the army. One is a serving Colonel in Deolali and
the other a Lt Col posted in Madhya Pradesh. The third is believed to
be an ex-army man of the rank of Colonel.

The link of these servicemen has been pieced together on the basis of
the confession of key suspect Lt Col Srikanth Purohit.
