*Delhi** International Ethnographic Film Festival*

The Department of Sociology, University of Delhi presents India's first
International Ethnographic Film Festival.
The festival brings to the Dlehi audience some of the finest recent
docuemntaries from more than 30 countries across the world.

The films will be screened at *Alliance Francaise, James Beveridge Media
Resource Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia, Vivekananda Hall at Delhi School of
Economics and the School of Environmental Studies*.



Film makers and guests from different countries will be present to take part
in several panel discussions and post screening interaction with audiences.





The festival has the following sections:

* *

*Open Section – *29 documentaries from 23 countries. Selected from over 200
films entered for the festival. The films cover a wide range of themes
including sexuality, ecology, displacement, music, indigenous cultures,
childhood and politics.

* *

*Tribute – *DIEFF pays a tribute to David and Judith MacDougall by screening
9 of their films spanning a film making career of four decades. The
MacDougalls are key figures in the history of the documentary and have
worked in various parts of the world. David recently completed a series of
six films on the Doon School that he shot over a period of two years. He is
a recipient of the Grand Prix at the Venice Film Festival. The MacDougalls
will be attending the festival and will be delivering special talks during
the festival.

* *

*Retrospective – *A package of 8 films by and on Jean Rouch. The legendary
French film maker who revolutionised the documentary form by introducing the
*cinema verite *style of shooting and conceiving documentaries. Francoise
Foucault a long time associate of Rouch will be present to take part in the
discussions.

*Street: Ritual And Performance – *The street has been a focus of
documentaries ever since the form emerged.
DIEFF has chosen 'The Street' as the theme for this edition. The section
focuses on Brazil with 13 films curated by *Patricia Monte Mor from the Rio
De Janeiro International Ethnographic Film Festival* and 10 films from the
rest of the world.

*Panel Discussions* – Several Indian and international film makers will be
present during the festival to take part in panel discussions and
post* *screening
interactions.
