The students and faculty of Ramjas College went on a protest march on
Tuesday calling for action against B.N. Ray, a senior faculty member accused
of sexual harassment.

Around 500 students shouted slogans against Ray and the governing council
for failing to implement the College Complaints Committee (CCC) Report.

The CCC Report was submitted in April 2008 and said that the "charges
against the accused" are valid and he should face termination from service.

"The complaint was lodged a year ago. The CCC submitted its report in April
2008, but no action has been taken against Ray," said Kumar Rahul, a senior
faculty member of the Political Science department at Ramjas. He alleged
that there have been proven charges against Ray of sexual assault and abuse
of students.

"The principal discharged him from teaching responsibilities, but stopped
short of terminating his services. The matter is with the Governing Body of
the college, which is yet to take action," said Rahul. The Governing Body,
however, has said that the case is sub judice since Ray has filed a petition
in the High Court.

Ray, the former vice-principal of Ramjas College, was accused by at least a
dozen male students of sexual harassment. They had alleged that Ray sought
sexual favours from them and blackmailed students if they refused to give
in.
