(c) if not, the reasons for non-acceptance of the District Planning
Committees` recommendation ?
ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (CH. VIDYASAGAR RAO)

(a) to (c): Yes, Sir. A suggestion was made in one of the meetings of
the District Planning Committee to assign the survey of the population
for issuance of Islanders` Identity Cards to students but the
Committee did not eventually make any formal recommendation to this
effect. The A&N Administration have decided to conduct the survey
through Government servants on the same basis as was done in
connection with the Census of India, 2001 operations and Intensive
Revision of the Parliamentary Electoral Rolls. The Survey is
tentatively scheduled to be held in the month of February, 2001 with a
revisional round in March, 2002.
