papered over :  appearances of pristine; pure; innocent
 
let loose : aimless, dizzying any observer (thank you terrible camera work)
 
handouts : ever the beggars, dark deep holes gobbling up largesses, puncturing the facade 
 
tethered again : stolen away stealthily, adventurers will relish the spoils
 
the boat : spoilt, ever in need of being papered over
