In order to bring more transparency in the public distribution system,
the state government will issue ration cards with bar code.

State Food and Civil Supply Minister Narottam Patel announced this
here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the budgetary demands of his department in the state
Assembly, the minister said that new ration cards will be issued and
monetary provision of Rs 4 crore has been made in the budget to
implement the new initiative.

The technology would help curb illegal use of ration cards, he said.

Moreover, separate coloured ration cards will be issued to the
families belonging to below poverty line (BPL) and above poverty line
(APL).

The minister stressed on the use of technology in the public
distribution system to bring transparency.
