Profiles
Prof.Raffaele Paloscia isan expert inurbanism, regional planning and self-sustainable local development in countriesof the South. Hewas the Directorof the Department of Urban and Regional Planning of the University of Florence(2003-09) and is currentlyteaching at the Faculty of Architecture. He is responsible for the MoU with School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (SPA) and JadavpurUniversity of Kolkata. He will present a study of urban regeneration in ablighted area of the Florentine periphery
SaraBartolini isan architect and is pursuing her PhD from the Department of Urbanism and TerritorialPlanning,University of Florence. She will discuss innovative experiences of women empowermentand involvement in participatory planning, focusing on a case study in the cityof Prato.
RitaBiconneis an architect and PhD student at the Department of Urbanism and TerritorialPlanning,University of Florence. She will discuss the role ofadaptive capacity and knowledge sharing in enhancing local empowerment through a case study of Malika, aneighbourhood of Dakar in Senegal.
ClaudiaRoselli is currently doing her research at the Department ofUrban and Territorial Planning, Faculty of Architecture, Florence and theDepartment of Urban Design, SPA, New Delhi. She will present on new methods of active grassroots planning andtransformations of urban zones in Delhi.
Gabriel Matera and Davide Vecchioare architecture students in the University of Florence and are currentlyvisiting at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi to work on theirundergraduate thesis. Thepresentation will focus on work in progress and analyse the city of Shahjahanabadthrough local people.

The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) is a specialized University,which exclusively provides training at various levels, in different aspects ofhuman habitat and environment. Centre for Policy Research (CPR) is anindependent think tank established in 1973. The Centre conceives its role asone of stimulating thinking on major policy issues and suggesting alternativepolicy options. The Urbanization Focus Area at CPR is a research platformexploring India’s urbanization challenge. LabPSM (Laboratory City and Territory in the Countries of the South of theWorld), coordinated by Prof. Raffaele Paloscia, operates since mid-90s at theUniversity of Florence in close connection with the activities of theLaboratory of Eco-design of settlements (LAPEI). LabPSM is growing as a centre for training and research activitieson issues such as urban, regional and environmental planning and physicaltransformation in cities and non urban areas in the South, with a directengagement of academic and non-academic, Italians and foreigners, partners, allcommitted in the promotion and implementation of projects of internationalcooperation.
