RECRUITMENT CALL – Writers/ Reporters/ Trainee Correspondents

The Big Indian Picture (TBIP) is an online magazine on cinema
TBIP will cover cinema from all over the world with a special emphasis on Indian cinema and its subcultures. The idea is to broaden the conversation on cinema by bringing together a wide variety of perspectives from exciting and prominent writers, designers, filmmakers, actors, cinematographers, photographers, artists and professionals from India and abroad. Also, to use cinema as a prism to look at society, politics and art.
TBIP will have written features (in-depth interviews, long form narratives and opinion pieces), videos, photo-essays, podcasts and artwork. There is a great deal of emphasis on design, production, and presentation.
This is an excellent experience for journalists and writers, as well as for creative minds who see a future as filmmakers, or film professionals. The team will need to interact with people from the Indian film industries on a day-to-day basis and, once trained, may also be asked to conduct video and written interviews.
We are looking for good features writers who are also keen reporters, to be part of the core editorial team that will ideate and drive content. Responsibilities will be diverse, ranging from writing to coordinating with writers and other professionals, conducting and transcribing interviews, taking inputs, working on the desk, carrying out research, coordinating with video producers and directors to meet deadlines for videos, social media, and ideation with the editor for content and planning. Training on key areas of work, from interviewing to writing, to meet our standards will be part of the initial phase of work.
As the publication is a new media publication, experience with using social media and internet applications is an added advantage but not a pre-requisite. Although we will work with a lot of video content, no specialised training in either video production or software is required though, again, it will be an added advantage.
Mass Communication, English and Journalism students are encouraged to apply, although students from other backgrounds who have a flair for writing will also be considered.
Please send in writing samples with a resume to info at bigindianpicture.com
