About the play

We all know that today amateur theatre isfacing hard times. The one who are surviving are going through crises. Theinfrastructural problem and lack of resources were always part of amateurtheatre groups but they used to have talented young theatre enthusiasts. Now a day we see huge crises of young theatreenthusiasts in the field of theatre. On the contrary, audience is coming backto theatre. Apart from problems like lack of young theatre enthusiasts andresources the current theatre practitioners are also facing the problem of formand content. In the fast changing world where every new innovation is changingour outlook, reach and means of communication every day, they are unable tofinger out what to do and how to grasp the changing world and its crises. Theproblems of the society have not just got multiplied but also cater todifferent class and caste groups. There is no such central contradiction whichcan be utilized for all the solutions. In these circumstances, fighting formasses should not be the answer of all the questions. The fight should be leadby the masses only, and then only we can hope for some change.

‘Jee, Hume to Natak Karna Hai’ is a playabout an amateur theatre group striving hard to come out with a theatreperformance which can cater its social responsibility. Most of them are newones in theatre and they live in their own dreamland where social commitmentand responsibility like words are forbidden. The director always stresses for aplay which could be socially relevant but the actors want to be trained inacting so that they can use this training in media industry in future. Theynever come across an issue where they could cement there differences. Thecontradiction between the old school and the new continues and finally thedirector chooses to walk out from the group. At the end of the play the actorsasks from the audience itself to suggests some issues which could be used as asubject for performance as they are mere actors.

About the Group

‘Sehar’ is a dynamic group, composed ofdifferent sections of society i.e., intellectuals, academicians, journalists, social scientists, activists, research scholars, art practitioners, &students, aiming for the change required in time. We have come together out ofour concern for the society in which we are placed. The group takes off withthe basic need of expressing and communicating for the problems of themarginalized and underprivileged section of our society.

The larger part of the society is still suffering under exploitative &oppressive structure. Because of their underprivileged situation often they arenot able to express themselves in an effective manner. It doesn’t mean thatthey are not fighting against the odds, but their sonorous sound is duped underthe earth by the so called care-takers of the society. Given thesecircumstances, it’s high time to make those voices audible for theestablishment by exploring all means of communications and ways of expressions.

The group also feels very strongly for creating a harmonious society which isstill not on floor. We can see the fight among different castes, communities, ethnicities and religious identities on several issues and it’s obvious thatmany times they are manipulated. (Maintaining the social fabric of the societyis very much needed in developing democratic countries like ours so that thefocus of struggle should not be shifted to any unwanted situation.) The groupwill try to expose these forces which play the divisive tactics to underminethe struggle of the fighting masses. The group also stands for the rights ofthe people all of whom are different in their views, culture and beliefsbecause in a vast country like India which is full of diversities, it should bethe basis to maintain the fabric of the society.

The group felt the need of communication and expression in the interest of thecommon people and considers it as important as any other form of struggle. Weare willing to explore each and every tool of communication for the concernedissues of the masses, whether through Education, Art, Culture or Media.
