[Reader-list] Call for Entries: 5th Cut.In Students' Film Festival

The School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social
Sciences, Mumbai is organising the fifth Cut.In Students’ Film
Festival on the 14th and 15th December, 2012. We invite students of
diploma, graduate and postgraduate programmes to participate in the
festival this year. The festival invites entries for Short Fiction
(under 45 min), Short Documentaries (under 45 min), and Public Service
Announcements (under 2 min).

This year SMCS in collaboration with the Foundation for Ecological
Security (FES), is introducing a special category, the Cut.In- FES
Awards for the Best PSA and Short Documentary on the Commons. The
objective of this video competition is to create awareness on the
issue of Commons and encourage citizens to take action to protect,
preserve and manage their commons. The idea is to affirm the
importance of the commons to the very existence and survival of
humankind, to critique the threats to commons in contemporary society
and to seek ways in which each one of us could contribute to the
commons vision. The PSAs and short docus could focus on both rural and
urban commons, such as natural resources (land, water, forests),
cultural commons (collective knowledge systems, music, the arts),
public property and new commons such as the Internet.

This national level festival aims to encourage talent among students,
not only from media institutes and colleges but also from other
disciplines. The festival seeks to address a felt need for a platform
where student work can be showcased. Two prizes will be given in each
category. The prize consists of a trophy and a citation. In addition
there are prizes for Best Cinematography, Editing and Sound Design and
special prizes for Short Documentary and PSA on the issue of commons.

The deadline for submission of entries is 1 October, 2012. The
short-listed films will be announced on the blog by the end of
October. TISS will provide hospitality to invited filmmakers (one per
film) and travel expenses are to be borne by the filmmakers.
