Sturm
(Storm)
Director: Hans-Christian Schmid, colour, 110 min., 2008-09
Hannah Maynard, a prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, is conducting a case against the war criminal Goran Duric. When the main witness for the prosecution becomes tangled up in inconsistencies and soon after takes his own life, Hannah travels to Sarajevo. There she meets the witness’s sister, and with her help the courageous lawyer attempts to bring Duric to justice.
28 September
Das Deutsche Kettensägenmassaker
(The German Chainsaw Massacre)
Director: Christoph Schlingensief, colour, 63 min., 1990
October 1990: The German people celebrate the reunification of Germany in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker speaks of unity and freedom. A young woman kills her husband with a huge knife and flees. Her car, a “Trabant”, indicates Clara is an “Ossi”, an East German. She passes the last remaining border troops and arrives in the West. A family of butchers has been waiting for someone just like her. Alfred and his gang benefit from the opening of the borders in their very own way: they butcher and slaughter their brothers and sisters from the East, preferably with a chainsaw, and turn them into sausage. Christoph Schlingensief, the great provocateur, provides a disturbing and very bloody answer to a number of questions surrounding German reunification.
12 October
Renn wenn du kannst
(Run If You Can)
Director: Dietrich Brüggemann, colour, 112 min, 2009/10

Ben and Christian are in love with the same woman. Ben is in a wheelchair and Christian is doing his national civilian service as Ben's carer. They meet the cellist Annika, who is under a lot of strain due to her music degree. The film tells the story of an unusual love triangle, and features absurd, humorous dialogue and plenty of black humour. Intelligent cinema that goes straight to the heart.
19 October
Anna Boleyn
Director: Ernst Lubitsch, b/w, 118 min., 1920
After completing her education in France Anne Boleyn (Henny Porten) is brought to the English court of Henry VIII (Emil Jannings) by her uncle, the Duke of Norfolk. She catches the King’s eye; he gets divorced, breaks with the Pope and offers Anne the crown. But his desire for an heir to the throne goes unfulfilled.
