PANI HAKK ABHIYAN

Dear Friends,

The government of India has recently issued the draft National Water
Policy 2012 (NWP). Not surprisingly, it promises to be anti-poor and
anti-people. The draft has been criticised by experts on various
grounds: that it will promote the privatization of water; that it is
anti-poor; that the process of drafting has been carried out with
little consultation with the people and non-state collectives, etc.

In order to get a handle on the details of the draft National Water
Policy and to better understand its implications – so as to have a
more informed resistance – Pani Hakk Abhiyan is holding a discussion
meeting with:

•       Himanshu Thakker (South Asia Network of Dams, Rivers and
People – SANDRP)

We would encourage a discussion – both on content and strategy, what
we can do to oppose the government’s moves – after his
presentation.
