*Applications are invited for the Open Space *fellowships from young,
dynamic, energetic and resourceful individuals committed to building a more
equitable, sustainable world.

*About the fellowship*

The OS Fellowships are full-time, 12-month fellowships carrying a monthly
honorarium of Rs. 20,000, which is expected to cover all the costs of the
proposed project as well as provide a small honorarium to the fellows in
the course of the fellowship.

The fellowships are to be awarded to individuals in three different
cities *excluding
Pune*.

Over the last six years, the Open Space outreach process has also been
introduced by Open Space Fellows in different cities including Kolkata,
Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mumbai. In Mumbai, for example, our Fellow is
exploring through interviews, photography and discussion forums what it
means for young people to be excluded from the mainstream because they do
not conform to normative ideas of beauty and acceptability. In Ahmedabad,
our Fellow is training diverse groups of young people to make short video
films that address communalism, disseminating these films through social
media networks. Fellowships that employ (and result in) creative media
including publications, web archives, fiction, poetry, films, etc. are
ideal.

*We would be very interested in applications that aim to build discourse on
youth and social responsibility by documenting the lives and work of young
social entrepreneurs in India on audio, video, in articles and photographs.*

*The Applicant*
We are looking for individuals below 40 years with excellence in
communications, teamwork and capacity-building. Candidates must be
well-networked with NGOs, CSOs, educational institutions and community
groups in their own city, which will help them take their project forward.

Applicants are invited to send in their CVs and a detailed proposal
(500-1000 words) on their proposed idea(s) for the OS Fellowship. The
proposal should substantiate the relevance of the idea/process proposed,
and detail strategies they would employ to see their project to completion,
including likely partners and networks in their cities.

*Please email your applications to **fellowships at openspaceindia.org by
February 15, 2012.*

*About Open Space*

**

*Open Space is the youth outreach initiative of the Centre for
Communication and Development Studies (CCDS), based in Pune, which
encourages youth in urban India to engage with issues related to pluralism,
social inclusion, accountable governance and sustainable development.*

*Central to the Open Space outreach process is the use of cultural
expression and the arts to introduce complex ideas related to gender,
sexuality, identity, intercultural dialogue, globalization, peace and
development through film screenings, theatre, literature, music, workshops,
festivals and campaigns. These strategies have made the Open Space process
a unique and very creative way to expose young people to fresh and diverse
perspectives, encourage them to articulate their concerns and work towards
social change with some of India’s leading opinion-makers, cultural
activists and social entrepreneurs.*

*The Centre for Communication and Development Studies (CCDS)* is a social
change resource centre working at the grassroots level to strengthen civil
society and citizens’ action for social justice, human rights, sustainable
development and accountable governance.
CCDS’s primary mandate is to empower civil society with information,
analysis, diverse perspectives and alternative messages, enabling citizens
to: 1) assert, exercise and claim their rights, 2) participate in
meaningful discussion and citizens’ action, and 3) advocate change in
public policy and social attitudes.

The core competence of CCDS is the use of innovative communication
strategies and media advocacy to influence public policies and societal
attitudes. Our civil society discussion forums, the Open Space civil
society and youth outreach programme, our online resource base on social
justice and development issues www.infochangeindia.org, the quarterly
journal InfoChange Agenda, and a number of other action-research works and
publications play a crucial role in advocating issues related to
sustainable development, governance, human rights and social justice at the
national and international levels.
