SARAI READER 09: THE EXHIBITION
at
The Devi Art Foundation, Gurgaon
Address and map at the end of this mail

Parvez Imam >> People-powered, Script-less, Video Art Project

How: Exploring a narrative that proceeds through story upon story

What: A story will be initiated, and invited participants and incidental
visitors will take the narrative wherever they wish. Anyone, and
everyone, can participate in the process of knitting and taking the
story forward.

Where: The story will be initiated on November 4, Sunday, at 10 am at
DAF, and in the afternoon, the camera goes into the city. On November
10, Saturday, at 6:30 PM, watch the screening of the work in progress
(Screening Space, First Floor, DAF). On November 16, travel with the
artist through the city, take the story forward. On November 24, at DAF,
watch screening of the work in progress.

Moritz Fingerhut >> Rec:On

How: A looper on the ground floor of DAF records sound in Sarai Reader
09 for 17 hours, every 17 hours. Each recording layers over the previous
one. A set of speakers in the first floor corridor continuously play the
live recording together with all the previous ones. The
recording/playback, as it is 17 hours long, shifts bit by bit through
the 24 hour cycle of the day.

What: This is Rec:On. Recording is on 24x7. Perform a reading or make
music, conduct an interview... Do it when at DAF, or send a recording of
between a few seconds to 3 minutes, to play into the mic, most
preferably through a file sharing platform, to dak [at] sarai [dot] net

Where: The live stream is at http://fingerhut.caster.fm/ - it is the
same sound that is playing, simultaneously, at Sarai Reader 09.

Jenson Anto >> How a Pinhole Camera Sees a Large Abstract Drawing

How: On a canvas he will make, and with a pinhole camera he will assemble.

What: In the coming weeks, Jenson will draw on the canvas, take a
picture of it, paint over the canvas, and draw on it from the picture,
till the abstract print and the drawing come almost to naught.

Where: In the sun, behind the Cybermohalla Hub, by one of the DAF
'slanty' walls, every week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Parul Gupta >> Untitled

How: Through making lines in the space a part of her work

What: Over the next two months, one may find her one day by a window,
tracing out the shadows cast by the windowsill upon itself, and on
another day, creating a 'landscape' from an already existing frame. The
possibilities, she finds in the space, are infinite.

Where: Anywhere. Everywhere. After all, a line is a point taken for a
walk. Every week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Rabindra Patra >> Paste for Propose

How: Building a connection between the artist, the space, and the viewer.

What: Through a minute photographic documentation of Sarai Reader 09
over the next two months, as well as of his own daily travels between
his home and DAF, Rabindra will create a dense tapestry that grows and
covers, slowly, an entire floor.

Where: Proposal Room (First Floor)

Mihaela Brebenel >> Ruptured Sense(ation): Art and Politics in Romanian
Moving Image

How: Researcher's Open studio at Sarai Reader 09
What: Conversations around films by Romanian film makers to explore the
responses, thought affiliations and affective concatenations that moving
images elicit in the viewer.
Where: Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, in the Proposal Room

Anvita Jain >> My Hair Tell Stories

How: As a studio in Sarai Reader 09, to test, experiment and make.
What: A material exploration with hair, thread, wires.
Where: First Floor exhibition space

Namrata Pandit and Uday Pandit >> Timepass

How: A shifting, morphing, mobile paper sculpture.
Where: Within DAF, the location continuously shifts from corner to
corner, space to space.

Parismita Singh >> Why Ask the Old Questions?

How: On October 13, Episode One, following the erasure of the mural
Parismita had made over two months, she said: I kept telling myself all
throughout: No this is not. Not an erasure. Its like turning a page. We
are preparing the canvas for where I am going. Because once a piece is
done, its gone already. Not an erasure, but a preparation.

What: In the coming weeks, Parismita is etching out forms from within
the blackened out wall, and creating afresh.

Where: First Floor

Ishita Tiwary >> Amateur Cinema

How: Gathering and screening of films by amateur film makers,
discussions with the film makers

What: On November 10, Saturday, 4:00 PM, everyone is welcome to the
second discussion with the film makers. Watch out for further details on
the Sarai Reader 09 Facebook page.
