The Kudankulam nuclear power plant could have serious health hazards
not just for the local people but for the entire region, Binayak Sen,
member, Planning Commission’s Steering Committee on Health, said in a
statement here.

Livelihood

The large-scale loss of livelihood for the fisher folk in the entire
region aside, the long-term risks of a nuclear accident are
unpredictable, Dr. Sen said, expressing solidarity with the resistance
movement at Kudankulam..

At a time when even advanced nations with nuclear capacity are turning
away from the nuclear energy option, the local people of Kudankulam
are doing a major service to the entire nation through their committed
resistance movement, the statement said.
