This is a call for application for a research position as detailed below.

The South Asian Cluster of  “Global Suburbanisms: Governance, Land, and
Infrastructure in the 21st Century,” research program funded by
Social Science and Humanities Research Council, (SSHRC), Canada  (http://www.yorku.ca/suburbs/),
housed at the CITY Institute, York University, Toronto, invites applications
from student researchers enrolled in MA, MPhil, and PhD in humanities and
social sciences programs to undertake research in the urban peripheries of New
Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkatta, and Bangalore. The student researchers will
work closely with a faculty advisor and in consultation with the faculty
advisor, first, identify site/s of research, second survey and analyze
secondary literature and scholarly debates, third focus on one or more of the
following topics - work, mobility, livelihood, lifestyle, governance, and land.
Students with a background preparation in ethnographic and qualitative research
will be given priority. At the end of six months, student researchers will
develop a 6000 words long paper. Ideally, the research for the project should
contribute towards their degree program. 

 

In your application, please include your: i) CV, ii) 250
words statement describing your methodological training and conceptual frame or
influential authors, iii) suburban site you are interested in or may have
already conducted research in, iv) sample of written work. The monthly stipend
will be commensurate with the UGC scale for Senior Research Fellowship for a
period of first six months, renewable for an additional six to twelve month period.
