If you really understand the cold war dynamics and the unity of
fascism and US imperialism then Soviet socialism succeeded. It was
wrecked by Kruschev and despite the problems lasted for many decades.

Lots of people believe in socialism/Marxism and the development under
discussion is because of that. Most of the world media is under about
six MNCs and most of what is written is for controlling the majority
by a few super rich.

Many years ago the CIA created Taliban for destroying the successful
communist Govt in Afghanistan.
Now the Taliban has become a severe pain for the interests of US
corporates. Despite all the genocides in Afghanistan, the country is
hardly under anybody's control.
The Left is probably very strong at the grass root level and is not
that united, so they want to exploit their mass base through some
means. The typical non-Left Afghan is a super rich US stooge or a
suicide bomber.
