[Reader-list] 3rd FDZone Delhi film screening

In the 3rd edition of the FD Zone Delhi, we bring you a selection of films made between 1956 to 1977. Of the many themes taken up by the Films Division in its attempt to create a 'cinematic record of Indian history', the 'uplift' of Indian women was a recurring one. The evening's films will attempt to comprehend and interpret the state's imagination of its women at different points in time, and the place it gave them within the larger narrative of the nation.

The screenings will be followed by a discussion led by Uma Chakravarti, noted historian, women's rights activist and a filmmaker whose films have looked at 'the inner lives of women, and the impossibility of retrieving these lives because of the way we have been taught to look at history'.
