Ms. and Mr. Personality of the year
 
On the occasion of Internationalfor the persons with disability, Brotherhood and Cross Hurdles are happy toannounce, first of its kind event - Ms.and Mr. Personality of the year during 2014.  The purpose is to showcase persons with anyimpairment are not only efficient employees but also valuable consumers. (Detailswill be shared in due course).
 
As you know Persons withdisabilities are participating in a variety of income generating activities. They are very important part of human resource developmentacross the globe. It is high time that we start acknowledging their accomplishments rather than focusing on theirdisability. If givenopportunities and accessible conditions they can be as efficient as anybody else.  
 
Peoplewith impairment who are engaged in well paid jobs and working at good positionsare now the tax payers. They do not mind spending money on health care, wanthealth insurance, buy designer clothes and jewellery items, customized vehiclesetc. and thus the multiplier effect generates revenues for other industries. 
 
So ignoring and overlooking thedemands of this section of the society means losing a huge amount of therevenue which the companies could have otherwise pocketed. Modern businesseswork on the objective of sales maximization and brand proliferation. Unless theindustry respects the demand of this largest minority group, the overall netgains are bent to fall. 
 
The purpose of the event will be toprovide a platform and opportunities to industries and businesses:
 
•       Tomake them conclude that an emerging business trend can strive by utilizingtacit knowledge that persons with impairment uniquely acquire/develop due totheir disability from the perspective of entrepreneur, employee and customer.
•       Tomake the enterprises realize that they can maximize the opportunity to expandtheir markets and utilize available human resources.
•       Tointroduce persons with impairment as a business resource i.e. as customers, asemployees, as entrepreneurs 
•       To help them to interact withwell-placed people with disability in various industries
•       to assist them to interact with theemployers who have employed persons with disabilities
•       To interact with persons withvarious impairment using various customized, modified or retrofitted products 
•       To share various short films anddocumentaries showcasing success stories 
•       To organise a workshop for theprospective industries willing to generate employment as well as produceaccessible products for persons with various disabilities 
•       To document strategies required toemploy persons with disabilities   
 
In fact, to be fully effective overthe long term, “disability-inclusive business” should involve the principles ofthe United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)from the perspective of persons with disabilities as customers, employees,employers and entrepreneurs, or by any combination of the above.
