*Social Movements in the Age of Neoliberalism* **

by *Michael Burawoy*

Wednesday, 23 January 2013, 3 pm

CSDS Seminar Hall,

29, Rajpur Road, Delhi 110054

The social movements of the last two years, ranging across the planet, call
for a new sociology linking them to the state-sponsored commodification of
labor, nature, money and knowledge - a new sociology that might tell us
whether these movements portend the arrest or the intensification of the
destructive powers of the market.

Michael Burawoy teaches sociology at the University of California,
Berkeley. He spent many years working in the factories and mines of Zambia,
United States, Hungary and Russia, trying to illuminate postcolonialism,
the organization of consent to capitalism, class consciousness and work
organization in state socialism, and the dilemmas of the transition from
socialism to capitalism

Please confirm your participation in the talk.
