Debates in higher
education often tend to ignore the category of the teacher and the paradigm(s)
of teaching; it is as though only school teachers could be scrutinized and not
university/college teachers. This panel seeks to unravel the repressed category
of the teacher and teaching in the sociology of education; it would debate
whether the institutional‐structural
components in higher education are detrimental to the rise of the entity called
the teacher, or if it is the academic discourses that impede the idea of
passionate teachers in the varsity space.
