The Kerala Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF) will
intensify its struggle for realising the demands raised in
recently-concluded Jalayathra, said T Peter, national secretary,
National Fishworkers’ Forum. The KSMTF is affiliated to the forum. The
major demands raised by the KSMTF in the Jalayathra include banning of
the movement of cargo ships in coastal areas, cancellation of the
proposed seaplane project, banning of illegal construction and sea
filling.

Speaking to ‘Express’, T Peter said that the union has charted a
comprehensive course of action for realising the demands raised in the
Jalayathra. “The fish workers will organise state-wide protest marches
to the taluq headquarters on June 1. On July 1, the fish workers will
organise protest marches to the district collectorate and on August 1,
delegates from all districts will assemble near the Secretariat for a
protest rally. On September 1, marches will be organised to the
important Central Government offices in the state,” he said.
