The 16th kurzundschön: call for entries


kurzundschön moving images - international competition for young creatives, organized by the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) and the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR), has taken place every year since 1997. 

In its conception, the competition for newcomers links the KHM’s trans-media concept with parts of the WDR’s brief as a public broadcaster: supporting young artistic and creative talent, creating media crossovers and promoting short, contemporary formats.


kurzundschön is a international competition, exclusively for students and trainees in the field of audiovisual media.


Every year prizes with a total value of €25,000–€30,000 are awarded in the following categories:


Short film (feature films, animation, artistic/experimental
films/videos, no longer than 15 mins.)
Commercials/educational ads (no longer than 3 mins.)
Motion Art: Motion Design + Live-Video/-VJing
New category: “walk & watch - cinema in transitXXS” (no longer than 20 secs.)




Short film maniacs will be looking forward to this special highlight: walk & watch cinema in transitXXS. We are looking for silent productions with a maximum length of 20 seconds, without sex or crime. Five nominated clips will be shown on Infoscreens, large digital screens in metro and suburban train stations all over Germany. The winner will be elected by the Infoscreen audience.
