Dear All,
Indian Institute for Human Settlements is hosting a public talk by Ashish
Kothari on 26th November, Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Please do block the time off
on your calendar. Also, please do circulate this widely.
About Ashish Kothari
He has been in the forefront of the environmental movement for several
decades and is a founder-member of the environmental group Kalpavriksh. He
has co-ordinated India's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan
process and has been active with various people's movements, having
authored and edited over thirty books.
About the talk:
The impressive growth seen in the last two decades of ‘globalisation’ in
India has been predatory of nature and of already marginalised people.
There are clear signs of ecological unsustainability and increasing
inequities. Urgent steps are needed to forestall a rapid descent into
socio-ecological chaos. There is a need for concrete alternatives to
current policies and practices, and fundamental political reform
towards a *radical
ecological democracy*. In this talk, Ashish Kothari outlines a framework
for sustainability, drawing upon lessons emerging from grassroots movements
and initiatives.

Thanks a lot.
