Abstract:
Increasingly, institutions
other than traditional colleges and universities are involved in knowledge
production and distribution. Many such institutions are now organized in the
form of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). In this talk, I argue that a sub-category
of NGOs which can be called ‘academic NGOs’ have emerged in recent years. Using
examples from Nepal, I suggest that academic NGOs have become one of the most
important institutional sites of knowledge production in the countries of the
global South.
