*Brian Black *is Lecturer at Lancaster University, UK. He teaches courses
on Hinduism and Buddhism, as well as theory and methods in Religious
Studies. He is currently doing research on Indian secularism and ethics in
Indian philosophy.
He is the author of the book *The Character of the Self in Ancient India:
Priests, Kings, and Women in the Early Upanishads* and co-editor of the
book *Gender and Narrative in the Mahabharata *
