THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF)
has alleged that the State Government is trying to relax the Coastal
Regulation Zone notification for the benefit of the tourist resort lobby
posing a challenge to the fishermen community.

Federation president P P John and National Fishworkers Forum secretary T
Peter said in a statement that their demand was to implement the
notification without obstructing the construction of the fishermen's
dwellings. They alleged that during today's meeting with the central team
, the chief minister and higher officials of the state government were
trying to secure the interests of the tourist lobby and real estate mafia
and making reference of the fishermen community in a namesake manner. He
said this attitude of the govt would result in severe repercussions.

They protested the attitude of the Central team in not meeting the
fishermen community leaders as part of their sitting. They said in order
to protect the sea coast and inland water bodies from the real estate mafia
and tourist lobby the fish workers will launch an agitation. A 'sea voyage'
on traditional fishing boats will be taken out which will start on November
21 from Mangalapuram and reach T'Puram on Nov 30.
