*Urgent Press Conference on Deteriorating Situation in Bastar,*

*18th August (Tuesday), Press Club, Delhi, 4.30 PM*



Dear Sir/Madam,



As has been reported in the media recently, *Soni Sori* *and Lingaram
Kodopi* have been issued threats by IG Kaluri and the Bastar police and
administration. An order for excommunication has also been issued. Soni
Sori and Lingaram are facing threats due to their work with tribal
communities in exposing fake encounters and with undertrials in South
Chhatisgarh.



They are currently in Delhi with *Kawasi Hidme*, an adivasi woman who was
acquitted in 2015, after spending 7 years as an undertrial on false
charges.  She was arrested at the age of 15 in 2008 , and was subject to
torture, resulting in multiple illnesses and injuries. Two representatives
from *Nahadi Village,* Dantewada are also in Delhi. Nahadi was the
site of a*fake
encounter*, where a tribal man, Podia Emala was shot dead.



*Adv. Prashant Bhushan, Adv. Vrinda Grover, Arundhati Roy and Himanshu
Kumar* will also be addressing the Press Conference.
