performance and workshop at The Hive. The end of the month will also see us
at the Theatre Arts Conference of the Singapore Drama Educators'
Association:

Now - Fragments and Impressions of Hamlet"

About the Piece:
The piece is based on works by Boris Pasternak, Heiner Muller, Jan Kott and
others, as well as original writing and Shakespeare's play. Combining
elements of structured action and improvisation, it looks, not for meaning
or a message, but at experience - at an utterly human Hamlet, trapped
inside a prison of words, giving birth to him in the immediacy of the now,
responding as much to the physical space and the presence of the watchers,
as to the universe of Hamlet. In effect, this is a passion play that tries
to find illumination out of darkness.

Entry is Rs.300

(The performance has violent images and explicit content, hence viewer
discretion is advised. It is open only to those above 18 years of age)

Workshop: *Sahrudaya - *Way of  The Open Heart



In this workshop, we will explore how to:


   - know the breath, and it's relationship with the gaze, the expression
   and the gesture
   - discover ways of being present in space with a heightened awareness
   and perception
   - work with spontaneity, precision and flow, true to your inner images
   - open up a deeper, richer, more organic voice
   - work on the rhythm of the body and the rhythm of words
   - find a deep inner stillness and silence

The work will be rigorous and challenging, yet joyful and exhilarating. We
will push our physical and vocal limits, dance and sing, touch and breathe,
and create together. In the end, we will share our work with friends.

Open to actors/ dancers/ movement artists/ musicians with at least a year's
experience

Our work will also be travelling to Singapore this month. Arka
Mukhopadhyay, founding member of The Arshinagar Project
will participate in the Theatre Arts Conference 2015 of the Singapore Drama
Educators' Association from June 26th to 28th. Held once in two years, this
is one of the most significant platforms for reflection and exchange on the
practice and dissemination of theatre in the Asian region. This year's
theme, "Standing Still: Still Standing", challenges practitioners to
reflect on the changing landscape of drama and theatre practices. After a
successful paper and master-class in the 2013 edition, this year Arka will
present the solo performance, "If It Be Now - Fragments and Impressions of
Hamlet", and also lead a master-class based on the performance and read a
paper. His participation is made possible by a generous travel grant from
the SDEA, for which we are grateful. The conference also features papers,
performances and workshops from front-ranking practitioners from across the

And before we end, we'd like to leave you with some glimpses of the
recently concluded *Kalaripayattu*. workshop at Atta Galatta, in Bangalore:



The workshop drew enthusiastic response from people from all walks of life
and all age groups. We are happy to share this ancient art form with a
diverse section of people. We'll be back with our next general workshop in
Bangalore from the 20th to the 27th of July, at Atta Galatta; and we'll
soon be reaching out to schools, colleges and corporates who are interested
in bringing the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of *Kalaripayattu *to
their students and employees.

We are also happy to announce our first annual residential work-session,
"The Naked Actor", which will take place in West Bengal in August. Led by
Arka Mukhopadhyay and Uttam Das Baul, this'll be a rigorous immersion in
body and voice, living and creating together in a beautiful rural
