*Two Researchers **to assist the *

*Working Group on Northeast Action Research*



*Summary*



A working group culled out from eminent civil society institutions and
activists is being set up in Delhi *to initiate action research *that can
support the evolving of a strategic framework and alternative policy
options for
the* Northeast region*. The premise is that there is a large amount of
empirical research that exists in the academic and experts’ world on the
Northeast. *Action Research* would bring together experts, academics as
well as activists and synthesize historical and current research to help
shape the understanding of the region from a people’s perspective and
inform the understanding and strategy building of people’s movements in the
Northeast as well as of government agencies and policy makers.

The Working Group would like to hire *two researchers*, one for Delhi and
another to be based in Guwahati. The researchers are expected to begin with
a six month research module on governance review of the region.

*Responsibilities:*

Both researchers are expected to conduct thorough secondary and primary
research that would comprise of meeting with experts, local communities,
government officials and other stakeholders both in New Delhi and the
states of the Northeast over a six months time period. They would be guided
by the working group members and coordinator from time to time

*Deliverables: *

The following resources will have to be prepared:

(i)     A comprehensive annotated bibliography on the subject of Local
Governance in the Northeast;

(ii)   A dossier of relevant documents;

(iii) A comprehensive Governance review Report of Northeast;

(iv)  Organising dissemination meetings in Delhi and Northeast with support
from the larger working group.


*Qualifications Required:*


   - Post-graduate degree in Social/Political Sciences with knowledge and
   experience of working in and around issues of Northeast. Those pursuing
   M.Phil or Ph.D are encouraged to apply.
   - Ability to work in a team and to uphold, safeguard and promote Civil
   Society’s values and philosophy relating to ethics, integrity, etc.
   - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in
   English and one language of the northeast required.
   - Openness to extensive traveling.


*Salary:*

Salary is based on experience and on the working group’s adherence to
internal systems .

Delhi based researcher will need to divide her/his time between National
Foundation for India (NFI) and AMAN Trust.

NFI, initiated in 1992 by an eminent group of Indian citizens, (
www.nfi.org.in) is an independent, professionally managed Trust engaged in
Social Justice Philanthropy. Its mission is to promote civil society action
and public deliberation for social justice and change. AMAN Trust (
http://www.amanpanchayat.org) is an initiative for a just and compassionate
society. It envisages a pro-active role for civil society in the reduction
of conflict and the mitigation of its effects.
