The Great Earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015 in Nepal were, like all
ruptures, events of apparent dissolution of material and moral rules
governing the affected societies. In this talk, the speaker will share both
the methodology and a set of preliminary findings of the social audit the
researchers at Martin Chautari Institute of Research and Policy, Kathmandu,
Nepal conducted to capture the varied responses of the Nepali state and
societies to the earthquakes.

*Yogesh Raj* is Chair at the Martin Chautari Institute of Research and
Policy, Kathmandu, Nepal. He specialises in the relationship between
large-scale manufacture of everyday commodities and the emergence of the
modern state in South Asia. His recent publications include *History as
Mindscapes: A Memory of the Peasants’ Movement of Nepal* (2010); *Expedition
to Nepal Valley: The Journal of Captain Kinloch* (2012) and *Sandhya
Samrachana: Hindu Newarharuko Mrityuchetana* (2013).

*Awadhendra Sharan* is an Associate Professor at the Centre for the Study
of Developing Societies.
