*Struggle for Land - **Jignesh Mewani detained & many activists detailed
after Rasta Roko *
*outside Ahmedabad Collector office.*

More than 200 activists along with Jignesh Mewani have been detained after
they surrounded the Collectors office in Ahmedabad.

The people of Dholka led by Jignesh have been demanding that the 200 acres
of land that have been allotted to the Dalit families on paper, be finally
handed over to them with all the legal formalities.

Jayesh Solanki, who is part of the core leadership stated that the struggle
for the land rights of the Dalits, tribals and the landless farmers of
Gujarat will carry on till justice is done.

He also stated that all preparation were underway for the "Rail Roko" call
on the 1st of October, demanding that 5 acres of land must be distributed
to each Dalit family, who are no longer willing to perform the inhuman
tasks of scavenging and picking up and skinning dead cattle.

The struggle for land for the Dalits, Tribals and landless farmers has been
a key demand of the movement led by Jignesh Mewani and is now fast
spreading to the rest of the country.
