Dear All,

I hope this is of interest to some of you in the list.

CRITICAL MEDIA THEORY and NEW MEDIA ART
Position: Faculty - Full time

Srishti is inviting applications from practicing artists and/or researchers who have a strong professional and academic background in Critical Media Theory and New Media Art, and are interested in teaching for our Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program in Experimental Media Art (EMA)—part of the School of Media, Art, and Design.

Knowledge and skills to be taught
Full-time faculty at Srishti facilitates learning of the course capabilities as outlined in the curriculum and participates in all facets of the academic work including planning, assessments, juries, networking, administration and sourcing of learning/teaching resources. S/He encourages a culture of learning that aligns with Srishti’s values through an approach that is creative, practice-based, empathetic and open to cultural differences. At Srishti it is important to be able to work with students and colleagues in a facilitative manner.

The candidate will have to teach various learning units whose subjects will range from ontology of media to digital and network culture, to new media art and theory. All the learning units in the EMA curriculum are thought to encourage a practice-based approach to learning, therefore practical skills and/or implementing practice-based exercises are a requirement.

Expectations of the position
Our ideal candidate will be a practicing artist and/or researcher in possession of a relevant postgraduate degree, and have had at least 3 years teaching experience, or equivalent demonstrable experience. We particularly welcome candidates with a professional artistic practice and/or a research background that demonstrates a rich understanding of critical media theory, especially in the Indian context and in relation to gender, social and political issues. The professional expertise we are looking for is that of an artist, curator and/or researcher who is practicing and actively investigating the fields of new media art, digital and network culture, and/or art and technology, while possessing a strong knowledge of art history and artistic practices. The candidate will be a motivated educator who wants to see students growing from her/his teaching; she/he will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

This position is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who sees artistic practice as a research method and uses interdisciplinary approaches to explore the relationship that technological developments, archaeology of media, and media theory have with artistic practice and research in the contemporary world.
