Queerabad is organizing Gujarat's first conference dedicated to Queer
issues. This email contains the details of the conference. I would be
extremely grateful if you could participate and spread the word especially
to academics, educational institutions, Queer organizations, women's
organizations and other relevant institutions

QueerAbad presents... સં | bandh 2018

Date: 16th – 17th February
Venue: Natarani Amphitheatre, Ahmedabad

An adjective, a verb, an identity or a critique. What does it mean to be
queer in the everyday? What does it mean to queer the everyday?

This conference is an attempt to harness, explore and deconstruct the ever
shifting category of queer. It is an attempt to mobilise and problematise
it by placing it in and through different contexts. It is an exploration of
alternative forms of kinship, relationships and a possible vocabulary that
could provide a richer discourse around sexual dissidents. સં | bandh
wishes to begin a conversation surrounding issues of gender and sexuality
and the complex process of dis/identifications.

Abstract: 250-300 words Deadline: 20th October

Papers could include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

- Queer/LGBTQIA+ representation in art and culture - Negotiation with
publics
- Desire and its exploration
- Affect and politics

- Political mobilisation and movement - Metaphors of queer desire
- Queer: definitions and redefinitions - Queer Friendship

- Trans• and Hijra rights and identities
- Queer/ and the digital
- Performance and Performativity
- Intersectional politics (LGBTQIA+, Race, Ethnicity, Class, Caste,
Dis/Ability) - Queer migration and Home

- LGBTQIA+ Socio-legal perspectives

Abstracts to be emailed to queerabad at gmail.com
Participants will be notified of acceptance between 10th-12th November.

Final Paper Submission: 15th January
Final papers presentation should not exceed more than 15mins. (Additional

photographs/PowerPoint presentations etc should be sent along with
submission)

REGISTRATION

National (outside of Gujarat) and International Participants: 2500/-
(Including accommodation)**

Final Date: 5th December

* Registration fee can be negotiated/waived depending on need or
circumstance.
* QueerAbad is a small, self-financed group and therefore the type of
accommodation provided will be homestay.
