In the new National Health Policy (NHP) 2017, the government has underlined
its ownership towards healthcare access for all by raising the targeted
public health spending to 2.5% of GDP from the current level of 1.4%. The
private sector which has played a leading role in the growth of Indian
healthcare sector as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
has been identified as an important area that can fill critical gaps in the
public health facilities. The NHP 2017 envisages a greater role of the
private sector in partnership with the government.

The lecture will focus on the need for the public and private sectors to
reiterate their commitment to partner each other more proactively in
achieving India's dream of universal health coverage, improving access and
enhancing affordability while ensuring quality of services.
