The lecture would unlock the secrets of ancient memorisation performances,
rediscovered by a Russian and  possibly by Gandhi's Jain mentor, of the
professors' role in daily confession sessions in an ancient Greek
philosophy school and of the answers by the refugee Athenian philosophers
to their host King Khusru I of Persia in 531 CE. But since philosophers
rest on the bedrock of texts established by philologists, should they wait
until the philologists have finished? Some startling reasons why not.



*Sir Richard Sorabji* is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at King's College
London and an Honorary Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford. His philosophical
progress has been from Aristotle, then the next 1000 years of Greek
Philosophy, including orchestrating internationally the translation in over
100 volumes of 700 years of Greek Philosophy, then learning from others
about philosophy in other cultures, including the Arabic Aristotelian
tradition of the 10th to 12th centuries, and,  then, 'mostly through the
kindness of specialists, a little bit of Indian Philosophy' that resulted
in *Gandhi and The Stoics: Modern Experiments on Ancient Values *(2012).
His Recent publications include *Moral Conscience Through the Ages* (2014)
and *Aristotle Re-interpreted: New Findings on Seven Hundred Years of the
Commentators* (2016).
