Further to Jeebesh's parallel between CDs that only
give 'one yield' and Terminator seeds (which Monsanto
was forced to suspend following consumer outcry)...

Monsanto also produces a range of crops (soybeans,
corn etc) brand named "Roundup Ready".  this means
they have been genetically altered to withstand
Monsanto's own herbicide "Roundup" which can thus be
liberally applied with no effect on the crop. 
Monsanto refer to the "Roundup system" - crops made to
be compatible with a particular herbicide.

If you thought nature was "open source", no: crops
have to be selected in accordance with the proprietary
"system" you are using.  what would the parallel in
software be?  a virus software that destroyed
absolutely all software it found that was not "McAfee
Ready"?
