Singur CPM leader gets life term for murder

CPM leader Suhrid Dutta has been sentenced to life in jail in the
sensational Tamasi Mallik murder two years ago.

Dutta and another CPM worker Debu Malik were found guilty in the murder of
18-year-old Tapashi Mallik who took part in the Singur agitation against
land-acquisition for the Tata's Nano factory.

Tapashi Mallik was allegedly raped and murdered, then her body was burnt and
buried. After taking over the case last year, the CBI arrested Suhrid Dutta
who was then the secretary of the CPM's Singur zonal committee.
