Dear all,

Greetings from Lahore! South Asian Policy Analysis (SAPANA) Network is
pleased to announce the launch of its second phase of research. For those
who are not familiar with SAPANA Network, information is available in the
attached power point presentation. Briefly, South Asian Free Media
Association (SAFMA) and South Asian Journal initiated a project in 2005 to
develop an interactive network of experts for the South Asian Policy
Analysis (SAPANA) Network. SAPANA is a non-partisan, South Asia-wide
research and policy analysis network and hopes to play an influential role
in guiding discussion, analysis and policy both in South Asia and outside
the region. For SAPANA, our first task was to set up 14 Research Groups to
conduct research on a certain area related to South Asia. Members of the
Research Groups were carefully chosen from a long list of experts in their
area of specialisation and amongst those who work on the South Asian region.
These experts were all given a particular theme on which they had to
research and this -- SAPANA's initial research -- was presented at the South
Asian Journal conference in 2006 for evaluation.

SAPANA's next step was to incorporate necessary amendments in these papers
and publish them in the form of a series of books. These books are available
from our Central Secretariat at Lahore as well as from our country chapters
in the rest of South Asia.

For the second phase of research, the same process will be followed. All
research is to be conducted on the eight SAARC countries: Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The research will be conducted for 6 months from the day you sign the
contract. SAPANA Network will host a conference towards the end of 2009,
presenting this research to South Asian policy makers, politicians and media
persons. Please note that we do not want to use research which is old and
has already been published. We hope all research being conducted under this
new phase of SAPANA will be updated and take off from where existing
research ended. We are also happy to hear from you regarding possible
modifications and additions to the topics mentioned above. We are happy to
work with individual researchers or other think tanks and research
organisations.

SAPANA Network is also willing to publish and disseminate existing
unpublished work so that good research is disseminated to a South Asian
readership. Please contact us at: sapana.sa at gmail.com for this.

Looking forward to your emails.

Zebunnisa Burki
