[Reader-list] Jamia Millia University should be prosecuted

I think the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Milia has done absolutely the right
thing by offering legal aid to its accused students. Institutions have a
responsibility to their students. And it is only fair that whether they are
guilty or innocent, which only a court of law will adjudicate on, that these
boys be able to access legal aid. It is precisely when the extraneous
conditions of them getting adequate help and a fair trial seem tricky that
the university has a greater responsibility to step in. In such a situation
I think it right and fitting that their institution stand behind them.
Mushirul Hassan has said he will place this before the executive council
which is exactly the right procedure and protocol.

I am actually amazed to see the blood-lust from some sections on this list
where you don't even want these kids to get the legal aid which is their
right. And please lets not waffle about the state providing defence counsel.
We are all aware of what that counsel is like.

regards
Aarti
