Dear Rajen,

Thank you for your post.

> if your "nandu" is plumber what are you, a service mechanic.?

:-) To this let me just say, I am whatever you interpret me to be.

I think service mechanic is a cool tag. I think the values which make
a service mechanic are the values which are part of the spirit of real
India.

We actually need more service mechanics in UIDAI. Just like a service
mechanic looks at a bike which is not in running condition and applies
his skill and common sense to make sure it is in running condition
and would never recommend a purchase of a new bike just because there
are some carbon deposits on the spark plug, so to we need service
mechanics who can look at existing records and data pertaining to
personal identification and suggests ways and means to keep it updated
without bothering to spend 1.5 lakh crore on a completely unreliable,
untested technology, a technology which has no precedent in India. We
don't actually need these plumbers when we have our old pipelines in
place, we have clean water supply problem Sir, we need clean water
verifiers and testers.

Your anecdote concerning Shri Janardhana Poojari is perhaps one of
thousands upon thousands of such meaningful schemes gone horribly
wrong because of pursuance of grand visions which are premised on
faulty individual identification data.

I sincerely hope that with UIDAI we have atleast one database which
correctly establishes whoever we are as we are but will they be able
to do that is another matter altogether, isn't it.

Warm regards

Taha
