After ABVP’s allegations that a large number of Kashmiri students had got
admissions in educational institutions in Bhopal, the BJP government on
Monday formed a committee to recommend among other things the ratio of
students from Madhya Pradesh to those from other states.

ABVP alleged that Kashmiri students were getting into institutions by
bending rules and by offering money to corrupt staffers. It said it was not
against entry of Kashmiri students per se, but wanted them subjected to
thorough police verification.

“We don’t want separatists from Kashmir in Bhopal in the guise of students,”
ABVP said.

A committee headed by Commissioner of Higher Education with registrars of
Barkattulah University, Rajiv Gandhi Technology University and Gwalior
University as members was formed after a delegation of ABVP called on Higher
Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma.

The committe will scrutinise documents submitted by students who have
already got admission and the admission procedure followed. It will also take
a call on continuing those courses that no longer attract students from
Madhya Pradesh.

There are reports that in some courses in Barkattulah University, the number
of Kashmiri students is as high as 90 per cent.
