Christian-Muslim communalism growing: VS
Thiruvannathapuram: Chief minister V S Achuthanandan alleged that
communalism in Christian and Muslim communities in the State is
becoming intense with the backing of the secularist face of the
Congress. He added that the Kerala merger between Mani and Joseph
groups was fully supported by the Christian priests. He was speaking
at the meet the press programme organized by the Kesari Journalist
Smaraka Trust.

Without trying to stop growing communalism under the Congress, Oommen
Chandy always talks about being secular. He said P.J Joseph had no
problem while he was in the LDF for 4 years and that the sudden change
of mind was due to pressure from Christian missionaries.

When asked if he thinks that Jamat-e-Islami is a religious
fundamentalist movement, the CM replied that looking at their approach
he is forced to think alike. When questioned that during the last
elections, the CPM state secretary had made good comments about Jamat,
the CM said he had not heard anything. When asked on the all party
meet to deal with Kinaloor issues, CM's reply revealed his difference
of opinion with others in his party, he said that all those who have
complaints will be called to attend the meet.

VS also made a point on the loss of houses during the NH development
and said that it was a serious problem. He added that the Central
government has not yet replied to the State government's suggestion to
reduce the NH width to 30 metres. When asked about the ministers in
his ministry favoring 45 meter width, CM said there are people who
support the same in the cabinet. The final decision on the NH width
would be taken in the next Cabinet meeting after the Centre's reply
